LAFITTE, La. (WGNO) – So here’s a Fish Tale for the books. A Louisiana captain nearly tripped over somebody’s treasure Friday while walking on an island in the Chandeleur chain.

Capt. Theophile Bourgeois said a 15 to 20 pound brick of marijuana washed ashore.

Bourgeois said his clients and him were walking the backside of the island when they saw something rectangular and wrapped in plastic near the water’s edge.

Bourgeois said he instantly knew what it was because it was dark brown and smelled really bad.

The plastic bag didn’t have any distinguishing markers on it.

It was turned over to police.
