SOUTH PASS, La. (WGNO) – A video posted on Instagram shows a group of orcas swimming in the Gulf of Mexico near a boat full of fishermen.

The man who posted it on his Instagram page said he took the video about 50 miles south of South Pass, La.

The video shows at least five killer whales swimming near the boat.

According to the National Wildlife Federation’s website, about 500 orcas, also known as killer whales, live in the Gulf, feeding on tuna and dolphins in deep waters.

The website says these whales typically stay far away from land.

According to the federation, great white sharks have also been known to pass through Gulf waters.
