METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) - Two women were killed Monday morning in a crash on South Interstate 10 Service Road and Edenborn Avenue in Metairie.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said the two women killed were 24-year-old Madison Comeaux of Metairie and 38-year-old Jaclyn St. Romain of Slidell.
The accident happened around 7:33 a.m. Monday.
Witnesses told WGNO's Jacki Jing a silver Jetta was about to make a left turn onto Edenborn Avenue, when a 2007 blue Mustang convertible driving down the service road struck the front of the Jetta. The Mustang then flipped on its side, was airborne and slammed into a utility pole.
Latoya Gordon said she witnessed the whole accident. She said the Mustang was going 80 to 100 miles per hour before the crash.
"I stopped and turned around... everybody tried to run over to help, but there was no way to get to them," Gordon said.
The crash killed both women in the Mustang, the Jefferson Parish coroner's office said. Their bodies needed to be extricated.
The driver of the Jetta was visibly shaken but not injured. He was not cited.
Toxicology tests are pending.
Another witness told Jacki Jing the Mustang was in a minor accident minutes earlier on Intestate 10. The witness said the women in the Mustang speed off before information was exchanged.
Power went out briefly in some of the buildings near the crash scene.
