BATON ROUGE, La. (WGNO) -- As fans at the Bayou Bash anxiously watched the fax machine, all were pleased to see LSU land a top-ranked signing class.
Head football Coach Les Miles said the class is all about filling needs. He said the Tigers needed a good defensive line and wide receiver class. Now, they have the best in the nation featuring many who can make an immediate impact on the Tiger program.
"We will become more of a dominant team, more by the nature of our player, than by the nature of the call," said Coach Miles.
LSU landed 9 out of the top 10 players in Louisiana. If you add 18 returning starters, Coach Miles said they can compete for a national championship.
LSU signed 17 athletes from Louisiana.
For the third year in a row, the Tigers sealed the top recruit in Louisiana with 5-star Defensive Tackle Rashard Lawrence. Coach Miles said that speaks to the LSU program.
"There's a group of men in this class who want to win another national championship right here in the state of Louisiana for friends and family. I think that's a significant piece LSU will always have," said Coach Miles.
