Suspect who shot and attempted to murder Tulane med student Peter Gold tried to harm himself in his cell

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) –¬†Euric Cain, the man police believe is responsible for shooting Tulane medical student Peter Gold in the stomach was hospitalized¬†Sunday.

Police say Cain told an Orleans Parish medical professional he was having suicidal thoughts Sunday morning.

When medical personnel were preparing to enter Cain’s cell, he was attempting to harm himself with a sweatshirt.

Cain did not lose consciousness and was transported to University Hospital as a precaution.

Cain is in custody for several charges, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and armed robbery with a firearm.
