NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - Driving around the city you’ll see signs advertising for churches all over the place, but none like this.

The message that St. John Number Five Faith Church decided to give read “HIV... It’s time to take control of this gangsta!”.

The church is offering free HIV testing, as well as free condoms. Not only that but the Pastor of the church appears in the advertisement, front and center wearing the hat!

Pastor Bruce Davenport said that his church is doing what other churches don’t want to, which is saving lives by letting people know that they can get help for STD’s in a non-judgemental, Christ-like way.

The church turns 100 this month. They were founded as a Baptist church but were later "kicked out" by the Baptists in 1987 when they started addressing this huge need.

In 2013, a state health department found that the New Orleans metro area is second in the nation for HIV cases and 5th in AIDS cases.
