NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The 10th Annual Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo presented by Positive Vibrations Foundation takes place this weekend, Friday, May 15 - Sunday, May 17th, along the beautiful banks of Bayou St. John. With music on three stages, a curated arts market, beloved local food vendors and a host of recreational activities, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo remains New Orleans’ leading free, neighborhood festival.

Festival Background
Since its inception in the months following Hurricane Katrina, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo has focused on improving the community through partnerships and responsible practices. Many non-profit organizations benefit from outreach and fundraising efforts held in conjunction with the Bayou Boogaloo, including: Friends of Lafitte Corridor, Hope Stone New Orleans, Mid-City Volleyball Group, Hike for KaTREEna, Morris Jeff Community School, Mid-City Neighborhood Organization, Parkview Neighborhood Association, Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association’s ReBridge effort to rebuild the Bayou St. John footbridge near Cabrini, and the festival’s own Restore the Bayou Canopy campaign. In addition to ongoing recycling efforts, the festival will further promote sustainability by adding composting for food vendors this year, with the hope of expanding composting throughout the festival site in 2016.

From those humble roots as a one-day neighborhood celebration in 2006, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo has grown to be one of New Orleans' premier music showcases. In 2014, nearly 40,000 music lovers attended the three-day festival. 2015 visitors can look forward to three stages packed with top musical talent plus a Kids Stage for all-ages workshops and entertainment.

As always, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo is hosted by MotherShip Foundation, a New Orleans 501c3 non-profit organization. Proceeds from the festival facilitate MotherShip Foundation's many community improvement efforts, including the Restore the Bayou Canopy campaign. This ongoing effort to replace trees along Bayou St. John lost to hurricanes has, to date, planted eight live oak trees along Bayou St. John. In 2015, festival proceeds will be used to launch a new anti-litter campaign.
