Suspects who tried to sell a child spotted near Texas stateline

HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) - Two people accused of trying to sell a young girl at Race Trac gas station in Hammond are on the run.

Louisiana State Police said the van the couple got away in after attempting to sell the child in Tangipahoa Parish was spotted in St. Charles. La.

Witnesses told police on Friday a Hispanic woman, who appeared to be pregnant, was first begging for gas money, then tried to sell a girl standing nearby.

Hammond police told WGNO the child appeared to be ten or eleven-years-old.

After the woman's attempt was unsuccessfully the two left with a man.

Authorities are asking the public to be on the lookout for a 2005 blue Dodge Caravan with Florida license plate # BSXR89.

The woman was last seen wearing a red shirt and black skirt, according to police. The child was wearing a black shirt, black skirt and black leggings.

Detectives are sifting through surveillance footage trying to find out if the child has been reported missing.

Authorities in Texas have also been notified that the couple may be headed their way.
