Florida soldier killed in Afghanistan

(WGNO) – A Green Beret soldier with ties to Louisiana has died from wounds he suffered last month in Afghanistan.

The U.S. Department of Defense says Sgt. 1st Class Andrew T. Weathers, 30, died Tuesday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.

Two days earlier his unit was attacked by small arms fire in Helmand province.

Weathers was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

He is a native of Crestview, Fla.,  and enlisted in the U.S. Army from Louisiana in January 2003.
