METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) - He wears number seven, but for Rummel’s season opener he was number one.

On September 5, Rummel defensive end Briston Guidry recorded 6 tackles, 2 sacks - one for a safety against East St. John.

Guidry also blocked a field goal and returned it 24 yards as Rummel shut out the wildcats 39-0.

“I just felt that I had to help out the defense since I have been out for a little while rehabbing,” Guidry said. “I knew I had to step up for the defense and make some key plays."

Guidry is a Mississippi State commit. Head coach Jay Roth said Guidry makes a ton of big plays. That’s why he gets statewide recognition.

"Briston tends to make big plays when he is in there. That is why he made all state as a sophomore, and he picked up where he left off last year,” Roth said.

Briston Guidry of Rummel is this week's New Orleans Voodoo Athlete of the Week.
