DESTREHAN, La. (WGNO) – A St. Charles parish suspect is still at larger after deputies discover his girlfriend stabbed dead in their bathroom.

“It’s a shock to everybody here in this particular area,” says Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange. “This is the very early stages in the investigation. We do not know what the motive is.”

LaGrange says 34-year-old Bruce Bourgeois Jr. is accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death inside their Destrehan home.

The fatal stabbing victim has since been identified as 35-year-old Mia Waite.

Investigators say the couple has two children together and the victim’s mother, Carnelian Waite, lived close by.

“We believe the mom walked in while the crime was in progress,” says LaGrange.

He says when the mother came over to drive bourgeois to his probation appointment, she was attacked too. But escaped and ran across the street for help.

“She came to the residence and provided her with a note. The victim had been bleeding pretty profusely.”

Injured and not able to speak, the mother wrote down the name of her attacker.

She was taken to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.

The children were located and are safe.

Bourgeois was last seen driving a grey Toyota Scion with Louisiana plate# VTE 461.

He’s considered armed and dangerous.
