Jefferson Parish Deputies say 43-year-old Pedro Monterroso-Navas was arrested in Texas early Monday morning for second degree murder. They believe he killed his girlfriend Sunday morning and took off with three children.

Deputies and Louisiana State Police found the three children, 12-year-old Jessica Monterroso, 4-year-old Yojan Monterroso-Flores, and 2-year-old Jafet Monterroso-Monroy, safe.

Jefferson Parish investigators say the horror unfolded at about 3:30 Sunday morning at an apartment on the 4000 block of Durand in Metairie.  They say two kids, ages 5 and 8, knocked on their neighbors door to tell them something was wrong with their mother. Deputies say when the arrived they found the woman lying in the bathtub, lifeless, suffering from blunt force trauma to the head.

Investigators say Monerosso-Navas was arrested in large part because of a conversation Monday night between one of the children and a female friend in Texas. The mother of that friend called 9-1-1 and told cops, who then arrest him.
