The new observation deck in Violet provides a panoramic view of the Mississippi River.  The Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation built the facility and cut the ribbon Friday evening.

Construction on the facility began last October on a 132 acre Meraux family farm in Violet.

The observation deck is on the top floor of a five-story building.  The lower floors include a classroom as well as space for gallery exhibits, conferences, and other community functions.

“I’m hoping that the community will just really know how we want to share this beautiful place with them and many, many incredible events,” said foundation president Rita Gue.

The ribbon cutting ceremony also included the presentation of a check from the foundation to a bike path that will be developed along the river levee.
