After weighing her options, a New Orleans businesswoman has decided to open a new shop in an area she says is under-served.

A Grand-Opening for Kaleidoscope Hair Studio is set for this weekend.

WGNO News Reporter Darian Trotter spoke to the owner about her decision to open in New Orleans East.

For businesswoman Jesseca Dupart it’s been a long road to own and operate her own hair salon; from brain-storming about a concept, to choosing a color-scheme and location.

“First it started off on paper, from paper it went to action, from action it went to sleepless nights,” Dupart said. “A lot of phone calling, a lot of errand running.”

The idea has become a reality. Kaleidoscope Hair Studio is a full-service salon; proudly located in New Orleans East. Not downtown, not Uptown.

“I’m happy I chose New Orleans East. “It’s something I thought about for a little while; but I feel like this is the right place to be.”

Dupart says she wants to be part of the solution.

It’s no secret that since Hurricane Katrina resources have been scarce in the East; despite master plans developed after the storm that have yet to come to fruition.

But things are looking up. For example, Wal-Mart has recently opened in the 5900 block of Bullard Avenue across the street from the shopping plaza where the new salon.

Customers love it.

“I do, I like this shop I like the colors.”

Raven Collins says when it comes to hair-care; a salon in her back yard makes sense.

“It’s easier, it’s more convenient than having to fight traffic to get downtown or to get to the Westbank or in some cases even Slidell,” Collins said.

Karla Castro travels from Uptown.

She heard about Kaleidoscope and had to check it out.

“On social media, I’ve seen it. On the radio on 93 I’ve heard it,” Castro said. “And then you know I just decided to come here one day and I fell in love.”

Now that much of the work is done, Dupart is ready to share Kaleidoscope with the rest of the city. A Grand-Opening celebration will be held this weekend.

“She finally made it, and I’m really excited for her,” Castro said.

Kaleidoscope Hair Studio is located at 5941 Bullard Avenue.
