Sharks in Net(CNN) – United States Coast Guard found 65 dead sharks in an illegal net off the south Texas coast Monday.

The decomposing sharks were caught in a gill net, often referred to as the “wall of death,” because they are effective at catching and killing fish.

Authorities suspect it was left behind by Mexican fisherman illegally poaching in U.S. waters.

The U.S. Coast Guard says it has seized 28 fishing vessels, compelled 34 back into Mexican waters and retrieved more than 12 nautical miles of illegal fishing gear since October 2013.
