The Coast Guard is investigating what caused marine owner Clyde Naquim’s 30 foot cabin cruiser to capsize.

He drowned Thursday afternoon off the coast of Lake Pontchartrain.

The Coast Guard says Naquim called out a mayday alert somewhere off the coast near South Shore Harbor Marina saying his boat was taking on water and that he was putting on a life jacket.

His radio then went silent.

Coast Guard Rescue boats and a helicopter were dispatched.

Naquim was eventually located by co-workers.

A diver found him inside the sunken boat un-responsive.

He was hoisted into the helicopter and airlifted to West Jefferson Medical Center where he later died.

The Coast Guard says foul weather could play a factor why his boat sank.

Clyde Naquim was the owner of Kody Marine Inc. in Harvey.
