BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA) — It’s a crime that’s hard to believe and it happened right here in our own backyard. A family pet, intentionally killed. And it’s gruesome.

The Kensington Place subdivision is a usually quiet subdivision but on Monday neighbors had to deal with an especially grisly scene.

“After seeing her. It’s not, it’s not an animal attack,” says cat owner Patricia Piland.

The Piland families pet cat, Scar, was found in a neighbor’s backyard cut in two and shockingly, investigators say it was no accident.

“It was intentional. There’s no way she was just cut perfectly in half. It was no accident so we called animal control and the sheriff’s and they both agreed that someone intentionally hurt the cat.”

Patricia says that Scar never strayed far from home.

“Most night’s she stayed inside at the pastor’s house next door and then during the daytime she would come over here and eat.”

Making it even more unusual that the cat was found one street over, in another neighbor’s fenced in backyard.

“It’s always been a very safe neighborhood. It’s just scary to think that someone would intentionally hurt an animal.”

The incident has made Patricia think twice about the safety of the kids and pets in the neighborhood.

“It’s very scary you know. You got kids running everywhere and I have another cat, another dog you know. Everybody has animals. It’s just not right to do it. It can’t go not taken care of.”

Now the family is looking for answers.

And searching for clues as to who committed this horrendous act.

“We’re going to try to get an autopsy on her and hopefully they can determine what the cause was and I don’t know if whoever did it will be found. We just put the word out to an email to the home owner’s. If anybody hears anything please let us know.”

An act that took the life of not just an animal, but a family’s beloved pet.

“We’re animal lovers. We’re very upset. You know I got a little six-year-old who fed her every morning with us and she was just a loving cat.”

I am so sorry for your loss! I hope whoever did it gets cut in half!

Murderous scum are stupid, and will blab to their friends! And hopefully, it's been witnessed by neighbors or a security cam. And a "crimestopper's reward"should help!

And next time, I know you will know to keep your cats indoors. They live so much longer that way.

My condolences again to you and your family for the loss of your beautiful cat.

PLEASE FOLLOW UP on this story. Don't just put this information out, without results of autopsy on this beloved cat. Whether a sociapath did this, or if it was a coyote attack, people want to know what's going on. So many small animals disappearing, and dying. There have been several suspected coyote attacks on cats in my area, and I have recently learned that coyotes will hunt purely for sport.
My heart goes out to this family.
