NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Brother Martin shortstop Greg Deichmann made a life decision days before the first year player draft.
He told major league clubs he was going to college at Louisiana State University. Deichmann said for him the decision was easy even though he was passing up a potential 6-figure contract.
“It is in the backyard. Playing for the purple and gold is what every kid wants to do. To make that dream happen is amazing,” Deichmann told WGNO.
Deichmann hit .354 in the prep season with 11 homers. He’s a rare bird, a power left-handed stick in high school baseball, and he stuck with his initial decision. No to the pros; yes to LSU.
For that he is our New Orleans Voodoo Athlete of the Week.
