JEFFERSON PARISH (WGNO) – A 29-year-old man admitted to investigators he killed a pregnant Terrytown woman Sunday morning in her apartment.

Arrest warrants for second degree murder and first degree feticide have been issued for Emilio Calderon.

Authorities said Wednesday, Calderon was a friend of Katherine Martinez, 23, and visited her Saturday afternoon. While there, he told investigators he became angry when he found out he was not the father of Martinez’s unborn baby.

Calderon admitted to stabbing Martinez several times as well as choking her until she became lifeless, Colonel John Fortunato said in a release.

Calderon  is currently in Lafourche Parish awaiting to be transported back to Jefferson Parish where he will be booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

Martinez’s lifeless body was discovered just before 1 a.m. Sunday at her apartment in the 600 block of Whitney Avenue in Terrytown.

The news has left her neighbor’s in shock.

“I didn’t really hear the commotion or nothing like that, but if I would tried to intervene; to try to help this lady who is carrying a child. That’s not right. People don’t get involved, I don’t get involved. There’s no Christianity any more,” said neighbor Sonte Hebert.
