JEFFERSON PARISH (WGNO) – Tuesday night, Jefferson Parish deputies surrounded a home in the 100 block of Dodge Avenue in the Old Jefferson neighborhood.

According to Col. John Fortunato, the woman fired a shot at a relative while in the front yard of the home.  He said the two were arguing over a car.  Deputies were called to the scene and found the woman barricaded in the home and unwilling to speak with them.

“They’re trying to open a line of communication with the lady inside the home. But as it stands at this point we have yet to receive any response from her,” Fortunato said of the SWAT team’s efforts.

After about a four hour standoff, the woman surrendered to police.  She is identified as 44-year-old Ashley Shepphard.  She faces charges of aggravated assault and illegal discharge of a firearm.

Nobody got hurt in the incident.
