Monday’s Wheel of Justice Report Begins with Tangipahoa Man Killed in Gun Fight

Monday’s Wheel of Justice report begins with the search for a killer in Tangipahoa Parish.

According to the sheriff, 30-year-old Brandon Simms exchanged gun fire with someone who was trying to break in through the back door of his apartment on Bailey Drive in Hammond.  Simms was shot and killed.  The gun fight happened at about 12:30 Monday morning.

Also on Monday’s Wheel of Justice report, the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s office ruled that a pregnant woman found dead inside her home was strangled.  Initial reports from deputies also indicated that the woman had been strangled.

According to deputies, the woman was found dead on the kitchen floor of her apartment in the 600 block of Whitney Avenue in unincorporated Gretna at about 1:00 Sunday morning.

The victim is identified as 23-year-old Katherine Martinez.  Deputies say she was in the third trimester of her pregnancy.

Finally, Monday’s report included the search for whoever shot and killed a 15-year-old boy in the Ninth Ward.  The attack happened in the 2200 block of Bartholomew Street at about 7:00 Sunday night.

The boy’s body was found by a home.  Police say a black Cadillac Escalade with Texas license plates was seen speeding away from the scene.
