ST. CHALRES PARISH, (WGNO) – He’s headed to the Middle East to play football. He’s our New Orleans Voodoo Athlete of the Week.

Former Hahnville and current Louisiana College starting quarterback Easton Melancon has been selected to play on the 2014 United States’ 19 and under national team.

Melancon is one of forty-three players on the team who will compete in the International Federation of American Football’s 19 and under tournament in Kuwait City in July.

Melancon was named American Southwest Conference freshman of the year.

He threw for 2,386 yards, tossed 24 touchdown passes and three times, he tossed 4 touchdown passes in a game.

Melancon credits the coaching of Dennis Dunn and his staff for his rapid improvement.

“The coaching I had here at Louisiana College. I had great coaching at Hahnville, but the atmosphere over here. They focused on my strengths and something I need to work on, they gave my drills that I needed to do to help me with weaknesses,” Melancon said. “I just feel like it made me a tremendously better quarterback.”

Easton Melancon of Hahnville, is this week’s New Orleans Voodoo Athlete of the Week.
