Severe Weather Hits Parts of the River Parishes

Neighborhoods in low lying areas of St. John Parish are covered in floodwater.
Wednesday’s storm dumped heavy rain over the area, straining drains and canals.
The National Weather Service confirms an EF-1 tornado touched down near West Airline Highway.
The nearby Marathon Refinery sustained the most property damage.
Areas nearby had downed trees and power lines.
Parish workers barricaded flooded streets and passed out sandbags.
Homeowners in low lying areas are concerned about the rising water… And the forecast of more heavy rain.
“Very nervous because in Isaac we flooded and so we’re just trying to get back to normal from Isaac’s flooding,” homeowner Jennifer Duhe said. “It’s kind of scary because three inches more and it’ll be in the house.”
The National Weather Service predicts an additional 1.5 inches of rain fall overnight in St. John Parish.
