CHALMETTE, La. (WGNO) – Our fallen vets were honored at the Chalmette National Cemetery Friday ahead of a Memorial Day ceremony this weekend.

Volunteers turned out to lay flags at the foot of every headstone.

“It’s such a hallowed ground; it’s an honor to come out here every year, and put these flags out,” one volunteer told WGNO.

The flag lying comes before a ceremony on Sunday at 12:30 p.m., which will include a color guard and a bagpiper.
