463558605NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Just a reminder, Mother’s Day is this weekend!

But when it comes to buying gifts for your mom, what’s the right amount to spend?

According to the National Retail Federation’s annual poll, Americans will spend about $19.9 billion on moms this year, averaging out to about $162.94 for each mom in the nation.

Believe it or not that’s about $6 less than the average from last year.

Greeting cards were the most popular choice accounting for more than 80 percent of gift purchases, with another two-thirds of Americans buying flowers. But only about one-third will dare try and pick out clothing for their mom.

Of course most want to get their moms out of the kitchen resulting in just fewer than $4 billion being spent on food.
