NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – She pitched her team to their desired destination — and for that she is our New Orleans Voodoo Athlete of the Week.

In the state playoffs against Plaquemine, Ursuline Academy’s Meta Hight starred. She struck out 14 as the Lions advanced to the state tournament for the second time in school history.

Hight said she was aware of what changes hitters were making against her.

“I adjusted to the batters who adjusted to me,” she told WGNO. “Could have been my last game, thankful that it wasn’t.”

The Lions play West Ouachita High School in the 4a quarterfinals Friday. With Hight, and fellow senior Jenna Jurisich on the mound, head coach Stephen Dickey likes his team’s chances.

“We worked hard to get 2 home games, and we knew this was our best shot to get there. We are a team that is built for this. We are lucky to have two good experienced, solid pitchers,” Dickey said.

Meta Hight of Ursuline, is this week’s New Orleans VooDoo Athlete of the Week.
