Late Friday night, Tangipahoa Parish deputies announced that inmate Christopher Ricker had been captured, ending a two-day search for him.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said Friday that more details would be released at a later date.

WGNO reporter Tyler Wing covered both days of the search, including the capture, and reports that K-9 teams tracked down Ricker in a wooded area.  Tyler reports that Ricker could be injured and may have to go to the hospital before returning to jail.

According to St. Tammany deputies, Ricker left a work release program Thursday morning, then kidnapped his girlfriend at her job and used her car to begin the two-day chase.

Deputies say Ricker crashed the car later on Thursday and jumped into a river near Cherokee Beach in the Loranger area.

Deputies followed with trained dogs, helicopters, and all terrain vehicles.  Friday night, deputies cornered Ricker.  Moments after Tyler announced the capture, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office released an email with the information.
