On the Northshore, deputies are searching for an escaped inmate.

Deputies say 35 year old Christopher Ricker ran away from a work release program, kidnapped his suspected girlfriend then took-off in her car.

He’s been on the run since early Friday.

At 8:30 a.m. on Friday authorities received a 911 call from the woman, stating she had been abducted by Ricker from her job in Covington.

The pair then drove north to Tangipahoa Parish where Ricker kicked the woman out on Wardline Rd.

Shortly afterward deputies discovered Ricker driving on Hwy 442 in Loranger.

A chase ensued.

At one point, deputies collided with the 1999 blue Toyota Camry Ricker was driving.

Ricker crashed into a tree near Cherokee Beach, and then jumped into the river, according to deputies.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said late Thursday there’s no idea of Ricker’s whereabouts.

Edwards says search teams are starting over from the bridge Ricker was last seen jumping off, after crashing the car.

A hundred officers on foot, ten canines and two helicopters are building a perimeter and will employ a manpower rush into the woods.

Edwards says Ricker may have injured himself jumping from the bridge.

The Tangipahoa Sheriff’s office warns any friends or family in the area, who may be trying to help hide Ricker, will be charged with harboring a fugitive.
