Thursday, St. Tammany deputies discovered the body of a missing woman from Alabama.

The coroner ruled that Melinda Denny was stabbed to death.  Deputies found her body in a field along Brewster Road near Highway 1077.

Deputies say Denny was traveling to Texas with her boyfriend, Johnathan Nall.  They say the spoke with the couple early Saturday morning in the parking lot of a grocery store in the Covington area.  At the time, Sheriff Jack Strain says, there was no indication that there was anything unusual going on.

Later on Saturday, deputies shot Nall with a bean-bag gun to end a standoff at a convenience store.  They took him into custody but found no sign of Denny.

Nall was already in jail on charges connected to the standoff.  There was no word Thursday evening on the filing of any murder charges in the investigation.
