A nasty winter storm in the northeast has been making a mess of holiday travel. By mid-morning delays were already stacking up at Armstrong International Airport. At least 13 flights were either delayed or cancelled by 11 a.m.

Inside the airport, a jazz combo played soothing live music to relax and entertain travelers on what promises to be a hectic travel day.

Leyne Welshman is visiting from Scotland. She’s headed to New York to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. New York’s airports are already racking up long lists of cancellations and delays.

“We have our fingers crossed that we won’t miss the parade,” Welshman told WGNO News. “That’s what we’re going for.”

Incoming flights are delayed as well, so even if you’re just headed to the airport to pick up grandma, you should check ahead to see if her flight is on time.

Above all, have plenty of patience.

Airport officials recommend at least an hour and a half before your scheduled departure and check the airport’s website early and often throughout the day:
