A group of protesters sat down on Poydras Street and Loyola Avenue near New Orleans City Hall Thursday afternoon to call attention to what they call harsh immigration raids in the New Orleans area.

Hundreds of other protesters waved signs and shouted slogans.

New Orleans Police SWAT officers showed up and arrested some of them – around 20, according to one of the groups at the protest.

They want U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to stop raids on undocumented workers and for the U.S. government to stop deportations.
