Friday afternoon, a 75-year-old man in Metairie was hit and killed by a cement truck.

It happened near Hastings Street and Craig Avenue.

Witnesses told Jefferson Parish deputies that the man walked into the truck’s path.

Deputies say the truck was part of a road work project in the area.

“He (the driver) had just dropped the cement.  And he drove away from the scene, and as he was driving away, apparently the pedestrian walked in front of the vehicle.  And he struck him with the front of the truck. A couple people nearby yelled at him and he stopped the truck,” said Col. John Fortunato.

No charges were filed against the driver of the cement truck.
