A young man is dead after what appears to be a home invasion in Gentilly. It happened Wednesday morning on Belfort Avenue alongside horse stables at the Fair Grounds race track.

Witnesses told WGNO News the man’s sister was coming home around 8:30 Wednesday morning when she saw a window shattered in her house. Then she noticed the front door standing open. She walked inside, on the alert for an intruder, when she smelled smoke and called the NOFD.

When fire fighters arrived, they put out a small fire and pulled the young man’s body out of the house.

Police say the 24-year-old man had been stabbed repeatedly. It appears the attacker tried to set the house on fire to cover up the attack.

So far, police have no motive nor suspects.
