Ugly Christmas sweaters are a time honored tradition, but one design has landed Hallmark in the hall of shame!

The lyrics to Deck the Halls are “Don we now our gay apparel,” but Hallmark felt the need to change the word “gay” to “fun.”

The company says it has no plans to pull the Christmas sweater-themed ornament, saying, “When the lyrics to ‘Deck the Halls’ were translated from Gaelic and published in English back in the 1800s, the word ‘gay’ meant festive or merry.

“Today it has multiple meanings, which we thought could leave our intent open to misinterpretation.”
