Neighbors in the Marigny are fighting a proposal to raise building’s height limit from 50 feet to 75 feet.

A local movement called Size Matters wants the latest comprehensive zoning draft ordinance to eliminate the part which gives permission to build an extra 25 feet skyward.

Marigny neighbors are worried 25 foot  taller buildings will dwarf current structures and jeopardize the historical integrity of the neighborhood.

The city says the extra 25 feet of building elevation could lure builders and provide incentives back to the neighborhood.

Public comment period ends November 30th.

City council is expected to vote on the final zoning ordinance sometime this spring.

The New Orleans Planning Commission has one final meeting Thursday in Treme  to educate neighbors on the current overall plan and take public comment.
