Against John Curtis, St. Aug’s Leonard Fournette carried 36 times for 263 yards and a touchdown. In the 4th quarter, Fournette was at his best. He scored on a 17-yard touchdown run, then reversed field and scored on a 2-point conversion.

Later in the 4th, Fournette scored on a 27-yard screen pass to cut the Curtis lead to 28-27. The Knights scored the winning two points on a pass from Toi Jackson to Stanley Morgan.

The 29-28 win was a big one, but head coach Cyril Crutchfield said it is only part of the journey. He said leadership must come from Fournette and the group.

“It has to be a collective effort on everyone’s part,” Crutchfield said. “We have to go into each game, not looking ahead. Focus on each opponent. He’s a leader, and we expect that out of him.”

When Ed Daniels asked Fournette if he feels added responsibility to lead his team to the Superdome this year, Fournette answered, “Always. Because as a leader – and I have playing since I was a freshman – there’s always responsibility to lead the team. And be a good example, especially to the Superdome this year.”
