Slidell police and St Tammany deputies announced the arrest of now five people in a murder over the weekend.  The killing is Slidell’s third murder of 2013.

Sheriff Jack Strain said the attack started as a drug deal.  It ended with the body of 23-year-old Leighton Powe, Jr, dumped on the side of Javery Road.

Slidell police chief Randy Smith says 17-year-old Ki’Shion Griffin planned the attack and convinced three people to carry it out.

Smith says two 20-year-olds, Fexlix Adams and Bobby Isidore, as well as 19-year-old Trenton Johnson carried out the  murder as well as stole marijuana from Powe.

The fifth suspect, 20-year-old Darion Causey, is accused of destroying evidence after the fact.  Smith did not rule out the possibility of future arrests in the case.

“If we can prove that anybody had knowledge of this crime or assisted in any kind of way to destroy evidence, we’re gonna charge them,” he said.

Smith also says tips to Crimestoppers helped detectives bolster their case.
