On Sunday, while thousands of people are traveling to Washington, D.C to take part in the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, the Congo Square Preservation Society hosted a commemoration of New Orleans Civil Rights Heroes, Marcus Garvey’s Birthday and the 8th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with members of Bamboula 2000, Muhammad Yungai, Sess 45, the Congo Square Drum & Dance Circle, surprise guests and the community.

The drumming and dancing event gives our community the opportunity to come together to celebrate, remember and learn from our collective past.
