Saints training camp is underway and it may be a while before safety Roman Harper is full go.

Harper is rehabbing after sports hernia surgery he says happened about one month ago. When did the injury occur?

“OTA’s, mini-camp. I am just too explosive. Did some stuff, just too explosive,” said Harper. ” I am just explosive man, you should hash tag that out, Roman Harper explosive.”

Harper participated in some walk thru work at the beginning of practice, but did not participate in full team drills. When will he be ready? “Sometime in camp,” said Harper.

The Saints offense started slowly. Drew Brees’ first pass in team drills was intercepted by cornerback Keenan Lewis. Brees threw two early interceptions, and quarterback Luke McCown tossed another.

Brees also misfired on a handoff to tailback Pierre Thomas.

Defensive end Kenyon Coleman missed practice. Head coach Sean Payton said Coleman had the flu.

The Saints practice at 8:50 am Saturday morning. The workout is open to the public at the Saints facility.
