JPSO names suspect in 6-year-old’s death

Matthew-FlugenceIn a news conference Tuesday afternoon, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department announced that a former person of interest in the disappearance of 6-year-old Ahlittia North is now a suspect in her murder.

Deputies found Ahlittia’s body shortly after midnight Tuesday morning in a dumpster near her home in Harvey. She had been stabbed twice in her neck, twice in her abdomen, and had bruising throughout her body.

During the news conference, deputies said 20-year-old Matthew Flugence had been seen near the crime scenes multiple times over the weekend. He is now JPSO’s primary suspect in the murder.
