The first arrival for New Orleans’ newest airline touched down Monday morning at Lakefront Airport.

Southern Airways flies smaller, propeller planes that seat nine passengers.

Company executives say the airline allows passengers to avoid long lines, TSA security checks, and to arrive just 15 minutes before take-off.

“That’s why we use this Lakefront Airport out here and flight line first.  We’re using this so that people can connect to the downtown area, the places they want to be when they travel to New Orleans,” said Southern Airways Chief Operating Officer Keith Sisson.

The company offers flights from Lakefront Airport to Oxford, MS, Gulf Shores, Destin, Panama City, and soon Birmingham.

A one-way ticket starts at around $129.
