When hurricane Isaac hit Laplace a storm surge at I-10 shut down supply chains and evacuation routes.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation says they will fix the flooding problem at exit 209 this summer.

Construction to be complete by September will eliminate a low point and add approximately 15 inches of asphalt to the existing roadway.

The DOT says construction to fix the other Laplace exit, the Belle Terre Blvd exit #206, will wait until 2015.

Design is also underway for a project to eliminate a low spot just north of the elevated section of I-55 near Ponchatoula, with work scheduled in spring 2014.
