40 NOFD firefighters were called out to a two alarm blaze in Gert Town Monday night.

Residents in the area say flames tore through the old Starlight Hotel & Cafe beginning at about 8.15 pm.

The property on Forshey and Lowerline had been vacant since Hurricane Katrina.

Arson investigators will determine the cause of the fire.

Crews on the scene say it appears the fire originated in the middle of the property.
