The St. Aug Purple Knights recently won the 7 on 7 tournament at the Saints facility. The Knights rallied to beat West St. John twice in the championship round.

“They’ve got a damned good ball club,” St. Aug coach Cyril Crutchfield told WGNO Sports Director Ed Daniels. “They have great chemistry. Their quarterback–he’s the real deal. The receivers are into him and I think some point in that second game which was the championship game we got our first turnover against him, and I think from that point on the momentum changed. I mean, they’ve got a heck of a ball club.”

The win sent St. Aug to the national championships, which will include one team from each of the 32 NFL cities and starts July 11th in Cleveland.

“Yeah, we’re excited,” Crutchfield said. “The kids are excited. Anytime they get to have a free trip it’s exciting, and we’ll see how we do.”

The St. Aug Purple Knights are expected to have a great fall. Their summer has been very good, too. They are our New Orleans VooDoo Athletes of the Week.
