New Orleans police hopes a gang round-up in the St. Roch neighborhood will put thriving drug dealers out of business.

Superintendent Ronal Serpas says 5th District undercover cops infiltrated a gang they say ran a profitable drug business in a covert operation on-going since September. They call themselves the 89ers and they were also known as T-Block.

Serpas says the drug sting netted  fifteen  arrests, seven of them 89ers, “Time and time again. They even did this in the presence of small children.  In a very carefree and unconcerned way.”

He says a  lot of crimestopper tips  helped tremendously, “It will need to play out in court as it relates to how deep we got into the organization.”

Two remaining suspects wanted on drug charges… are on the loose, “They are 43 year old Eddie Dokes and 59 year old Gerald Chambers.”

Serpas noted the number of repeat offender now in custody again for selling drugs, “These guys never wanted to be fixed.  You look at their records. They never wanted to be fixed. They’re raising children in this crime lifestyle.”

Homeland Security and the DEA assisted in the nine month investigation.

These arrests mark the fourth New Orleans gang round-up in two months.
