Fiery Gas Line Explosion in Washington Parish

55 people were forced to evacuate from their homes early Tuesday morning after a gas transmission line exploded in Washington Parish. It happened near a transmission site on Lee Road between LA 1072 and LA 16.

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal says the explosion “annihilated” a 300 foot area.  One woman living in a trailer near the explosion managed to escape safely.

Traffic was shut down on LA 1072.

The Washington-St. Tammany Electrical Cooperative is reporting widespread power outages due to the blast in Franklinton, Covington, Kentwood, Folsom and surrounding areas.
