KENNER, LA (WGNO) – Police arrested two Kenner women early Wednesday morning as they were being driven home by a 10-year-old child.

Police were called when someone noticed the car swerving and driving too slowly on I-10 at 1 o’clock in the morning. Officers found the car after it hit a curb while turning off Williams Blvd and onto 31st Street.

When they stopped the car, they found a 10-year-old driving, 54-year-old Brenda Byrd (who was allegedly drunk), 48-year-old Sheila Joiner (who was also allegedly drunk), and a 15-year-old child (no word on whether officers believed this child had been drinking).

Officers say both Byrd and Joiner “admitted to instructing the 10-year-old to drive the vehicle due to their level of intoxication.”

The two women were arrested, charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a vehicle.

The two children were placed in protective custody, then released to family members.
