Debate over who can be an American citizen is heating up.

The archbishop of New Orleans is taking sides over Senate Bill 744 which could decide the fate of 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond is in favor of the nation’s latest attempt at immigration reform, “My sisters and brothers the United States has a moral responsibility.”

Senate Bill 744 looks to balance achievable U.S. citizenship for undocumented immigrants with stronger security at the border.

The bill also provides incentives for military service and punishment for employers who underpay, “80% of immigrant day workers have been victims of wage theft,” says Aymond.

Debate over SB 744 will start next week in the senate.

The bill would then move to the house where an even tougher challenge is expected for proponents.
