Representatives from East and West Jefferson hospitals say a merger with a bigger hospital system is the works.

For that to happen the rules have to be changed in the form of House Bill 383.

This legislation would amend the current law which would now allow elected official to determine the hospital’s fate… not voters.

House Bill 383 has made it through the house and is expected to pass when the senate votes this week.

Confidentiality agreements prohibit revealing the three hospital systems in the running to merge.

The goal is to have a deal complete by early 2014.
