More than a mile of U.S. 190 in Mandeville will be widened from two to four lanes.  The state broke ground on the project Thursday morning.

In all, the project will cost $11.3 million.  It will affect the lanes of Hwy 190 from Asbury Drive to Lonesome Road.  There will also be some improvements made to traffic signals, ditches, and sidewalks along the stretch of road.

The work could help relieve traffic congestion in an area of Mandeville that often sees bumper to bumper traffic.

Construction is expected to take about a year.
